In September 2025, the official PHP SDK for Model Context Protocol was announced as a joint project by PHP Foundation and Symfony. The `mcp/sdk` package provides a framework-agnostic API so a PHP application can act as an MCP server: exposing tools, resources, and prompts to clients like Claude or ChatGPT, and later also operate as an MCP client. This bridges the gap between a traditional web backend and the agentic AI ecosystem without a separate Python service.
