Akeneo: single source of truth for products
Akeneo is a PIM platform that turns product data into a master system: one verified set of attributes, descriptions, and media is collected, enriched, and distributed across every channel, including the website, marketplaces, retail partners, and print catalogs.
PIM logic is simple: data is normalized to a single model once at the source, and each channel automatically receives its correct projection.

PIM / MDM / DAM
Product data has a single source of truth
PIM/MDM/DAM speeds up SKU launch and improves data quality: 1C/ERP stay as the accounting system, PIM becomes the managed content layer, and DATAREON moves data without point-to-point links.
Pimcore
Open-source PIM/MDM/DAM without vendor lock-in, with attribute models, DAM, and API channels.
Akeneo
PIM for managing attributes, completeness, workflow, and publishing product cards to channels.
DATAREON
A data bus connects 1C/ERP/PIM/website/marketplaces through a single exchange contract.

What you can do with Akeneo
Capabilities
Akeneo capabilities
Single source of truth for products
One verified data set instead of scattered Excel files and edits in every system — channels no longer contradict each other, and the team spends time on enrichment rather than reconciling versions.
Flexible attribute and product family modeling
The catalog structure reflects the real item master (families, attribute groups, variants), so new categories and suppliers can be added without rewriting the system.
Completeness and Data Quality Insights
Each product card gets a quality score and completion percentage, so only ready products are sent to channels and incomplete data is visible before publishing, not after customer complaints.
Localization by channels, languages, and markets
One product can store different values for different countries and platforms, so entering a new market does not require manually copying and duplicating the catalog.
Enrichment workflow and roles
Content moves through controlled stages (draft → review → publish) with clear responsibilities, so the catalog can grow without losing control or inflating the team.
Syndication to marketplaces and channels
Ready-made data projections tailored to each platform's requirements let products reach hundreds of marketplaces and retail partners without manual feed reformatting.
Manage media and digital assets
Images, videos, and documents are linked to the product and its variants, so each listing is complete on any channel without manually searching for the right file.
API-first and ecosystem integration
PIM sits between ERP/PLM sources and channels as a decoupled data layer: exchange happens through a standard REST API, not fragile point-to-point exports.
Import and mapping of supplier feeds
Supplier data is normalized to the internal taxonomy through rules, so onboarding a new vendor and thousands of SKUs is no longer a multi-week manual project.
Catalog migration from a custom-built solution
The migration is limited not by data volume, but by the quality of reference data. Without normalized attributes and units of measure, the import may pass formally and produce a 'clean' report, but a dirty catalog: duplicate specs, 'pcs' and 'piece' treated as different values, and sizes in different unit systems. That is why migration starts with aligning reference data and the attribute model to a single schema, and only then are the products moved.
Approach
How we implement Akeneo
Without modifying the core
We do not fork or patch the Akeneo core. Akeneo stays on the standard upgradable version, while business logic is moved into separate nearby microservices, so platform updates do not break your customizations.
International Standards, Not Homegrown Hacks
Where a mature international solution exists, we use it instead of inventing our own protocol or platform. Before writing code, we study how the problem is already solved in the industry.
Transferability
The solution is loosely coupled and documented: it can be handed over between teams and contractors without rewriting. You are not tied to us.
AI compatibility
Akeneo in the AI stack
AI-powered attribute enrichment
Akeneo fills in missing attributes and normalizes values according to rules, reducing the amount of manual entry and shortening product card preparation time (ROI up to 50% in the example).
Channel-specific content generation
AI adapts descriptions and copy to the requirements of each channel based on existing PIM attributes, speeding entry into new channels without separate copywriting for each one.
Data Architect Agent for modeling
An AI agent helps design the data model, migrate and onboard catalogs, enabling teams to build a scalable attribute structure faster than manual design.
Controlled and transparent AI configuration
A single dashboard manages prompts, translation rules, and AI settings, controlling and auditing AI workflows instead of adding a black box on top of the data.
PIM as clean context for AI channels and search
Structured, quality-scored product data is a reliable source for generative search, assistants and recommendations: the model cites facts, not messy product cards.

Summer Release: Agentic Ziggy — an AI-agent layer on top of PIM
A new agentic UI layer lets users manage a fleet of agents that enrich, validate, and orchestrate product data among themselves. The platform is positioned as moving from a system of record to an agentic system of execution.
Both orchestrate automated tasks, but n8n is a general-purpose low-code workflow engine, while Agentic Ziggy is a specialized agentic layer within the PIM. n8n → -
Spring Release: Bring Your Own LLM and Extension Platform
Users can now connect their own OpenAI or Anthropic API key instead of Akeneo’s built-in AI model, providing control over provider selection for compliance and security. Extension Platform enables full-stack extensibility with backend hosting through Upsun.

Community Edition 2026-2 "Hare-Way to the Stars": infrastructure update
The release raised the minimum stack versions to PHP 8.3, MySQL 8.0.34 LTS, and Elasticsearch 8.17.0. It is part of the transition to calendar versioning (vYYYY.Minor) from the previous scheme.
Akeneo uses Elasticsearch as the catalog search backend; the upgrade to 8.17.0 is a planned dependency update, not an in-house development. Elasticsearch →the minimum version has been raised to PHP 8.3 PHP → -
Winter Release: native MCP server and partnership with Stripe Agentic Commerce
Akeneo released its own MCP server to connect LLM agents to product data with access controls and guardrails, plus an integration with Stripe Agentic Commerce Suite for agentic checkout.
MCP as a protocol is covered separately in the catalog; Akeneo is a specific production implementation of an MCP server built on PIM data. MCP →
